God. This single word being spoken ignites a whirlwind of ideas, emotions, and feelings that seem to intertwine and oppose each other simultaneously. God can be the very thing that tears nations apart while simultaneously stitching together unlikely foes. I believe in God — I have since childhood and will continue to until I meet them in their kingdom of graciousness. However, I cannot turn a blind eye to the horrors of Christianity and what it has done specifically to my Indigenous ancestors. Instead of creating a piece to represent Catholicism or Christianity I chose to make one to represent God. God to me is not a man, but an entity. An all encompassing entity that is all around me and in each and every one of my cells. God protects, cherishes, nourishes, and loves all those in this universe. I always picture God as this flowing being that is continuous, so this piece made me rethink the ways in which I picture them to be. Taking my rather fluid idea of God I quickly learned to adapt and recreate it to fit this very structured style that metal rods embody. This process made me confront the uncertainty of what God truly looks like, recognizing that they can embody everything simultaneously. The size of this piece is intentional; I hold God deeply in my heart and wanted to create something as grand as this eternal love.
