My body prepares itself to vomit. This is the physical visceral reaction in response to violence inflicted upon girls and women globally. Running tired of endless explanations of these violent acts through a diluted lens this project became an outlet to visualize this brutality. Hours were spent cutting, pinning, and sewing panties out of white lace, which can be viewed as a sensual piece of fabric and a veil representing child brides. Something tied to innocence and purity then became obliterated with rusty, red, gnarly yarn and dark red paint symbolizing a brutal bloody crime scene. The swing highlights the girl that is everywhere and nowhere all at once. She is a neighbor, a daughter, a sister, a friend, yet no one can see her or the struggles she goes through because of how silenced this violence is. This violence is a crime scene that should weigh heavy on our minds, hearts, and souls. The replication of underwear and red footprints marking the floor is just a slight attempt at depicting the countless women and girls who fall victim daily. I hope viewers are left disturbed and a piece of their ignorance or innocence about this issue is shattered.
