Living in the female body is an inescapable reality for me that comes with complex feelings. My body is something that cannot be free from the perceptions of others and I am much more than my physical self. I have a soul filled with intangible and oftentimes outrageous emotions, which reveal themselves only to those who take the time to know me. However, for many I am simply categorized and judged without ever one word being spoken; that is the Life of being a woman. The physical installation of this piece mirrors that of a chalk hopscotch many kids would play. Women and their bodies worldwide are treated as a playground for people to enjoy and step on when they please. Instead of being understood as a living breathing person, we are mistreated as objects whose pain must exist for the amusement of others. Overall, this piece explores the struggle to reconcile my relationship with my soul amid a world that often devalues women’s bodies, while trying to highlight the ever-growing importance of self-love in a world filled with such disdain for my being.
